Open Text embraces ODMA 2.0 and Intranet extensions.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 1997--

Aggressive Support Continues Market-Leading Intranet Application's

commitment to Open Web-based Standards

Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEXF), the leading1 provider of Web-based document management and collaborative software, announced today that Open Text Livelink Intranet will fully support the Open Document Management API (ODMA) 2.0 specification and the ODMA intranet extensions.

The ODMA 2.0 specification will enable Livelink's powerful document management, workflow, searching and project collaboration capabilities to be seamlessly integrated with desktop applications. This means that any user of an ODMA- compliant word processor (such as Microsoft Word 97), spreadsheet, etc., will be able to interact with Livelink by using pulldowns within the desktop application. In addition, the new ODMA intranet extensions provide a standard way for a Web browser to request information and documents from a document management system that supports the ODMA standard, enabling users to interact with any ODMA-compliant document management system over the Web.

Bill Zoellick, Director for Document Software Strategies at CAP Ventures, a leading consulting firm on document management and information management issues, said: "Intranets are emerging as THE common infrastructure that corporations are using to tie systems together. Open Text's aggressive, early adoption of ODMA's intranet extensions, which provide a standard way of tying document management functions into this common infrastructure, helps them build on their position as one of the very few leaders in this rapidly expanding market."

Abe Kleinfeld, Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development of Open Text, said: "Since Open Text Livelink began shipping a year ago, it has provided full access to its document management, visual workflow, searching and project collaboration capabilities through standard Web browsers, with no client software or plug-ins required. This has enabled corporations to scale Livelink up to sites with as many as 60,000 users. These ODMA standards will allow us to integrate Livelink even more closely with the user's desktop, and will make it easier to provide unified access to all of an organization's important information. We think it is very good news for users, and we support it enthusiastically."

According to the ODMA draft specification (http://www.aiim.org/odma/interspc.htm), the intranet extensions consist of a standard syntax for encoding document management "calls" in a URL (Web address), so that pressing a button in a Web browser might, for example, send a message to a particular Web site to find all documents by a particular author that contain a particular key word. The ODMA-compliant document management system at that Web address would process the request and send the results back to the Web server.

Open Text, a member of ODMA, plans to support the new standard in the next major release of their product this year. Open Text will implement support for these standards through Livelink's API.
