Fed: Reith challenge over IR reform laws

Workplace Relations Minister PETER REITH has thrown down the gauntlet to Labor and
the Australian Democrats over industrial relations law changes.

The legislation is to be debated in parliament this week.

Mr REITH says the two parties have to show they're serious about industrial relations
and face four legislative tests when parliament resumes this week.

The opposition has slammed as anti-worker proposed laws making it easier for small
businesses to fire people and outlawing industry-wide workplace agreements.

Mr REITH says the government also hopes to pass changes giving employees a right to
a secret ballot before industrial action, and confirming separate youth wage scales.
