Professional chefs may tell you that they cook by sight and taste and never use measuring spoons. Our mothers and grandmothers often cooked that way too, using a pinch of this and a soupcon of that in the palms of their hands.

But, for many of us, a recipe would be a disaster without exact measurements.

People who like to cook already have multiple sets of measuring spoons, so that they don't have to wash them when they are switching between liquid and dry ingredients.
