SYDNEY, Jan 1 AAP - No Y2K glitches, well behaved crowds and a extravaganza staged
in Sydney -- Australia made a happy, polite start to the 21st century overnight.

Viewed first hand by just over a million revellers, the harbour city's 2000 celebrations
were a world-beating event which proved its readiness for the Olympics, according to Lord
Mayor Frank Sartor.

"It exceeded out wildest dreams, it's gone extremely well and the spectacle is there
