Qld: Government awards $97 million jail contract

BRISBANE, Jan 2 AAP - The Queensland government today awarded a $97 million contract
to build a new jail at Maryborough to Walter Construction Group.

At a ceremony at the site today, Corrective Services Minister Tom Barton announced
Walter Construction Group was the successful tenderer for the contract to build the Maryborough
Correctional Centre.

The new jail would accommodate 500 high- and medium-security male prisoners.

The inmates would be housed in a mix of 320 high-security cells and 180 residential-style
